2009 US NATIONALS Champions A & B Divsions 37 Teams with over 550 players participated for the coveted Official IDTA/ASHI Street & Dekhockey crowns this past Memorial Day. This was the 35th US National at the Leominster Dekhockey Center, founded in 1974 by Ray Leclerc considered the Father of the sport of Street / Dekhockey. 75 games with plenty of action & excitement for the fans & players saw several "new" champs for 2009. Penguin B Leominster Ma BlackHawks 4 Egg Harbor NJ Phantoms 2...Hawks Brandon Melanson's hat trick helped cinch the championship, while EHT goalie Christian Greenlee was great in goal.
Penguin A Leominster Ma Shamrocks 3 Bellmawr NJ Bears 1.... Shamrock Goalie Devalis stonewalled the undefeated Bears machine until Matt Marchese deflected the lone goal past him.
Beaver B So Jersey Hurricanes 7 Athol Av's 3... at the end of the 2nd period tied 3-3 the Hurricanes were led by Cole Blackley's 2 goals & 2 assists. Av's Caleb Salmond made several great saves for his club
Beaver A Bellmawr NJ Bears 1 Egg Harbor NJ Phantoms 0.... for the 2nd year in a row the final was a 1-0 contest, Sean Shute scored the lone goal while teammate Nick D' Ottavi notched the shutout. EHT netminder Andy Barmagartel played great in the exciting game.
Cadet B Leominster Capitals 5 Athol Ma Phantoms 4... it looked bleak for the Caps down 4 to 2 with 4 minutes left , then Korey Wilson scored twice & Nick Chapman once, Taylor Fletcher assisted on all 3.
Cadet A Leominster Kings 3 Bellmawr NJ Bears 0 .... the Kings reversed last years defeat to the Bears, as goalie Brandon Jones shutout the Bears. Jones great goaltending and the Kings stingy defence showed, with a perfect 0.00 GA for the tournament. J R Lapointe notched a goal & assist in the final.
